Biography of the Chairman
The Chairman of ECTS is Professor Dr. Abul Mandal, a Freedom Fighter of Bangladesh. Prof. Mandal is a Bangladeshi origin living in Europe since 1972. Currently, he lives in Skövde, Sweden and holds a dual citizenship (Bangladesh and Sweden). Please visit www.his.se/mana for his professional background.
Prof. Mandal was a student of former East Pakistan Agricultural University, Mymensingh (1968-1972). He left Bangladesh in August 1972 and came to Poland for higher studies in Biology. His study was funded by a scholarship from the United Nations Organization. In 1978 Prof. Mandal completed his Master’s degree at the University of Agriculture in Cracow, Poland. Later in 1983 he completed the Ph. D. degree also from the same university. In the same year he moved to Sweden and joined at the Department Botany, University of Stockholm as a postdoc fellow. In 1985 he got an assistant professorship at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala. In 1995 he was promoted to Associate Professor at the same university. In 1997 Prof. Mandal was recruited by the University of Skövde, Sweden as a senior lecturer of Molecular Biology. In 2010, he was appointed as a full Professor of Molecular Biology at the System Biology Research Center of the University of Skövde, Sweden. Since then he was heading the Biotechnology Research Group and also functioning as the Academic Coordinator for Internationalization of the School of Bioscience at this university. He retired in December 2018 and currently he has a “professor emeritus” position at this university. With the initiative and leadership of Professor Mandal the University of Skövde has successfully established many Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), study abroad and bilateral student exchange programs with several universities in the world. Prof. Mandal has four patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the USA and two PCT patents granted by the Patent Office in India. He has also published more than 150 papers in reputed peer reviewed journals. He has supervised 12 PhD and more than 50 master’s thesis. Since 2010, he has been serving as an Editorial Board Member of several scientific journals.
During the past 20 years Professor Mandal has helped above two hundred students from Bangladesh, particularly from Rajshahi University, to get admission in several universities in Sweden. Many of his alumni students have now successfully settled in many corners the world, for example in Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, India, Pakistan and USA.

Biography of Honorary Advisor
The Honorary Advisor of ECTS Dr. Hamidur Rahman is a professor of Geology at the Department of Geology and Mining, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He is one of the most senior professors at this university.
Prof. Rahman is a citizen of Bangladesh and he lives in Rajshahi together with his family. He also holds a Canadian green card that provides him and his family with permanent residency status in Canada. For this reason he visits Vancouver in Canada where he lives occasionally and he treats Canada as his second home.In 1975 Professor Hamidur Rahman obtained his B. Sc. (Hons) degree in Geology from the Department of Geology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. From the same department he took his M. Sc. degree in Geology in 1976. After that he was appointed as a senior lecturer at the Department of Geology and Mining, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
In 1982 Professor Hamidur Rahman obtained a fellowship from the Polish Ministry of Higher Education for performing PhD studies in this country. In the same year he came to the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology at the University of Mining and Metallurgy in Cracow, Poland. From this institute he obtained his PhD degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 1985. While doing PhD research in Poland he was partly (about 20% of fulltime position) involved in teaching.
After finishing PhD studies in Poland Prof. Rahman returned back to Rajshahi in 1985. Since then he has been serving Rajshahi University as a successful teacher, researcher, professor and chairman of the department as well. Over the years, he also has successfully established research collaboration with Japanese researchers.
Besides Polan, Japan and Canada Prof. Rahman has visited 67 countries in the world. He has over 40 years of national and international academic experiences in teaching, research and administration. We believe that these merits will make him an excellent advisor for student consultancy and benefit ECTS in a long term.

Biography of Honorary Advisor
Building and maintaining relationships has become one of Prof. Ghosh’s greatest strengths over thirty years of higher education leadership experience in the United States, Canada, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and India. Prof. Ghosh has a strong record of entrepreneurial accomplishment in establishing and implementing innovative programs and partnerships. Prior to Carlow University, he served as a Dean, School of Arts and Science and a Professor of Biology at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, USA.
Prof. Ghosh is a visionary thinker and experienced academic leader with excellent communication and collaborative skills. He has a broad understanding of the changing higher education landscape and the opportunities that are present in higher education institutions. In his career, he has demonstrated a clear commitment to the values of inclusive excellence, service and justice.
Prior to Iona, Prof. Ghosh was an Associate Dean of the School of Health and Natural Sciences at the Dominican University of California, USA. As a seasoned academician and researcher, he has demonstrated leadership in promoting undergraduate research, securing external grants and resources, and advancing the academic profile of the institutions with whom he has been affiliated.
Prof. Ghosh received a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Waterloo, Canada, a Master of Science in Crop Physiology from the University of Reading (U.K.), a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Lancaster (U.K.), and a Bachelor of Science in Botany Honors from City College, University of Calcutta (Kolkata), India. Prof. Ghosh is well published, with both personal and collaborative work, including 52 articles/chapters and two edited books, 60 percent of which are co-authored with his students.
The Chairman of ECTS Professor Abul Mandal and Professor Ghosh are good collaborators. Over the past 25 years they have jointly established several students and teachers exchange programs between USA and Sweden. Expertise and knowledge of Professor Ghosh will provide ECTS with success and prominence.
Biography of Honorary Advisor
The Honorary Advisor of ECTS Dr. Neelu Nawani is a Professor and Incharge of Microbial Diversity Research Centre, Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, India. Prof. Nawani completed PhD in Microbiology in 2003 from University of Pune on understanding the diversity of chitinases from bacteria and health applications of the end-products.
Prof. Nawani received fellowship for doctoral studies from University of Pune, Lila Poonawalla fellowship (1997), Junior Research Fellowship (1997-99) and Senior Scholarship for Science (1999-2001) from Lady Tata Memorial Trust, Young Scientist Fellowship from Department of Science and Technology DST (2006-08). She was awarded the title of “Peace Ambassador to United Kingdom” at the hands of Hon’ble Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, through a joint effort of Lila Poonawalla Foundation, Pune and Asha Foundation, UK. She received Research Award from DPU in the year 2014 and she bagged the award second time in year 2015.
Prof. Nawani has teaching and research experience of 21 years. Her major research interests are in the field of Environmental Biotechnology and Health Biotechnology. She has successfully completed ten research projects funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sweden and DST and DBT, Government of India. Presently she is handling a major research project funded by DBT. She has 82 research publications and 152 technical abstracts to her credit. She has 07 patents, has edited five journal volumes and two books. She has undergone several international scientific trainings at Germany, Sweden and France and has shared her research expertise at different national and international scientific meetings.
Prof. Nawani is Secretary of Pune Unit of Biotech Research Society, India and Life Member of Indian Women’s Scientists Association. She has held several responsibilities at administrative level. She is a member of Board of Management at Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth and was a member of Board of Trustees, Lila Poonawalla Foundation during 2006-09.
Since the past ten years Prof. Nawani and her team have established a successful collaboration in research and exchange of students and teachers with the University of Skövde in Sweden. She also collaborates with researcher from France and Germany. As an exchange teacher she visits Sweden at least once per year. Besides India, Prof. Nawani has excellent insights in European higher education as well. As an honorary advisor Prof. Nawani is an asset for ECTS.

Biography of Honorary Advisor
The Honorary Advisor Dr. Bulbul Ahmed is a Bangladeshi origin alumni student of the University of Skövde, Sweden. Since September 2013 he is living in Montreal, Canada. Currently, he holds a position of a postdoctoral researcher at the Plant Biology Research Institute of the University of Montreal, Canada.
Dr. Ahmed completed his B. Sc. (Honors) degree in Botany in 2005 from the Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. He also took his M. Sc. degree in Biotechnology from the same university in 2007. Then in 2010 he came to Sweden and did his second M. Sc. degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Skövde. He also performed his M. Sc. thesis work at the Centre for Biotechnology, University of Turku, Finland.
Prior to moving to Canada Dr. Ahmed was employed as lecturer of Molecular Biology at two educational institutions in Bangladesh, from July 2010 to June 2012 at the Government College in Dinajpur and from June 2012 to August 2013 at the Government College in Bogra.
Dr. Ahmed obtained his PhD degree in 2016 from the University of Quebec, Canada. His PhD study was funded by the FQRNT fellowship. From Jan 2017 to June 2018 he held his first postdoctoral research position at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Until today, Dr. Ahmed has coauthored more than 25 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Ahmed’s academic merits and personal background is a significant asset for ECTS and can be used as a valuable source for developing a successful environment for student consultancy.
Biography of Director of Administration
The Director of Administration of ECTS Dr. Noor Nahar holds an excellent expertise in international higher education consultancy. She obtained her B. Sc. (Hons.) and M. Sc. degree in Genetics and Breeding from the University of Rajshahi in Bangladesh in 1999 and 2000, respectively. After completing the academic degrees she was enrolled as a research fellow from 2005 to 2008 at the Biotechnology Laboratory, Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Rajshahi. The fellowship was funded by a grant from the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
In March 2010 she has also awarded another honorary M. Sc. degree in Plant Genetics from Department of Plant Breeding and Seed Science, University of Agriculture in Cracow, Poland.
In April 2010 Dr. Nahar was registered as a PhD student at the same University. This position was financially supported partly by the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS) and partly by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Simultaneously, she was employed as a research student at the University of Skövde, Sweden where she performed most of her PhD research experiments. At the University of Skövde she has been active at the Systems Biology Research Center also as a representative of PhD students and responsible for organizing seminars and workshops. In June 2014 she successfully completed her PhD dissertation and awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with specialization in agronomy from the University of Agricultural in Cracow, Poland.
During PhD research (2010-2014) Dr. Nahar was also involved in teaching of both bachelor and master level courses at the University of Skövde, Sweden. At the same university she was also holding a guest lecturer position for a period of six months in 2014. As a designated person Dr. Nahar has student experiences from Bangladesh, Poland and Sweden. Having this background Dr. Nahar can serve ECTS as an excellent expert consultant for higher education in Europe. Her knowledge will be used as source for providing students with correct guidelines for building up their future career.
Biography of Director of Planning
The Director of Planning of ECTS
Noyon Jahid has an excellent expertise in higher education consultancy both for Bangladesh and Sweden. He currently lives in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mr. Jahid has completed both graduate and post-graduate education from Dhaka University in Bangladesh. In 2005 he also took his MBA degree from the Stamford University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. During the past 18 years of professional career he has served in RANGS Group, OTOBI Limited, INOVA Limited, NADIA Furniture, AK Khan & Co and DOREEN Group. In these companies he held different positions starting from Trainee Executive and ending to General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. He adopted world class training on retail chain and analytical projections. He holds an excellent leadership capacity and also has vast knowledge in the field of brand, strategy, marketing retail, sales for consumer goods, electronics, furniture, building materials, textiles and real estate products. A couple of times he has been awarded for his outstanding performance for the business growth & target achievements. Through Rotary International Mr. Jahid has been engaged for many years with various social developments activities, among others, with students’ consultancy. He has traveled more than 30 countries across the world. A few years ago Mr. Jahid came to Sweden together with his family. Currently his wife is a final year M. Sc. Student at the University of Skövde, Sweden. Altogether, his past and present experiences make him an excellent consultant for students planning to travel to Europe for higher studies.
Biography of Director of Operation
The Director of Operation of ECTS is Md. Badrul Alam. He holds an excellent expertise in student consultancy focused mainly on higher education in Europe. Currently he lives in Skövde, Sweden. In 2010 Md. Alam completed his B. Sc. (Honors) degree in Geology from the Dhaka University in Bangladesh.
From the same university he took his M. Sc. degree also in Geology in 2012. During his M. Sc. at the Dhaka University he studied many courses like Georesources Management, Exploration Geology, Advanced Remote Sensing and GIS, Hydrochemistry and Contamination of Groundwater Resources, Modeling and Evaluation, Hydrogeology and Water Resources of Bangladesh. He has also published 12 research articles in national and international journals. After completion of the B. Sc. degree Mr. Alam has been employed as Hydrogeology Coordinator (Geo Database and Management Unit), GIS Trainee Geologist, (Geokinetics and International Inc.), Research Assistant (Dhaka University), Well site Geologist (Jamalganj CBM Project) and Senior Geologist (Invariant Limited).In addition, Mr. Alam has job experiences over a period of seven years in the geological field in Bangladesh. During the past few years he has been engaged with students’ consultancy. At present Mr. Alam and his family are living in Sweden. His wife is now studying M. Sc. program in biomarker at the University of Skövde, Sweden.
